It was the summer of 1991. I was working at Boeing at the time when one of my co-workers who attended Family Life Center invited me to play on the church softball team. There was just one catch. I had to attend a church service once a month. Being the softball fanatic that I was and the “sports junkie” that I am in general, I agreed to come to the Sunday evening service once a month while still attending our home church. It wasn’t long before Doris and I decided to come to Family Life Center on a Sunday morning, and when we did we knew we were home. Little did I know that one day God would call me to become the pastor of the church. Go figure! It took softball for God to get me here, but I’m so glad He did. Since we’ve been here at FLC we have truly come to understand what being part of a church family is all about, and we have come to love the people of FLC with all of our hearts. My heart’s desire is that more and more people who need a touch of God’s love and the warmth and friendship of His people would come and experience what’s happening here at FLC just as my family and I have.

By the way, I mentioned before that I’m a “sports junkie” so when I’m not at home, church, or at Starbucks, you can often find me at one of the local golf courses, tennis courts, or racquetball courts at the YMCA dealing with the personal frustrations of trying to live up to the visions of grandeur I have for myself as an athlete while miserably failing! I guess I’m just a professional athlete trapped in an amateur’s body. Like the Bible says, “The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
